Well that was quite a season.
The standout news was the progress of this guy, Dash Muir who posted a blistering 47.19 for 400m in early December at Nationals, then switched distances seamlessly to monster the 120m Gift scene through December and January to set himself up for the Easter Stawell Gift.
In the Semi Final of death, Dash had to stare down, Lachlan Kennedy, Jacob Despard and Archer McHugh. All the talk was Olympians Kennedy and Despard, but we knew the heat time of 12.29 was a coast for Dash and he had plenty for the Semi.
A blistering 12.177 saw Dash win the Semi and progress to a super final. He’d just knocked out an Aussie record holder, World Junior competitor and two Olympians.
In a quicker time again, this 17 year old finished 5th in his first Stawell Gift final, in a time of 12.166
Proud is an understatement. The pressure, the skill and the determination required at this age, he absolutely impressed me and many around him. Well done Dash.
It would be remiss of me to concentrate solely on Dash, despite the outstanding individual results, my Coaching book is pretty complete and the plan is to always develop the ranks, have the entire Squad learn from and enjoy the highs of our results:
Athletes have progressed across many sports and track efforts, most I will forget to mention, but a few include Matthew Fairchild Captained Victoria AFL Squad into Queensland with his speed and endurance shining through, Eve Potter continues to improve, off limited time in the program but some mind blowing times in 800 & 1500’s. Athletes have secured MSA places, APS scholarships and excelled in other sports where our speed, strength and endurance can shine through, like Surf Lifesaving for instance.
